Call Waiting

Now while talking on the phone you won't miss another call. With Call Waiting, a special tone alerts you to an incoming call when you are on the phone; the caller hears only a normal ring. You can then place your current call on temporary hold and answer the new call.

Plus, with Cancel Call Waiting assigned to your line, you can eliminate Call Waiting for the duration of a call. This is especially useful for those times when you don't want your call interrupted or when you are using a computer on the line.

Here's how you are alerted by Call Waiting...

  1. When you are on the phone, a "beep" tells you a second call is waiting. Only you hear this beep.
  2. If you don't answer the second call within 10 seconds, another "beep" reminds you it's there.
  3. The second caller hears only the normal ringing tones.

To answer the second call...

  1. Depress the switchhook* for about one second to place your first call on hold
  2. You are automatically connected with the second caller.

To end either call...

  1. Simply hang up.
  2. Your telephone will ring.
  3. When you answer it, you will be connected with the other caller. The call you discontinued will no longer be on the line.

Cancel Call Waiting

Now when you have a call that you don't want interrupted, you can prevent a second call from breaking into your line. To Cancel Call Waiting, simply dial an access code prior to placing your call.

In either case, the cancel request stays in effect for the duration of the call and any incoming calls receive a busy signal. This feature is especially helpful if you use a computer to send and receive data transmissions through your phone line.

To Cancel Call Waiting before calling...

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial the deactivation code 7 - 0- # , and listen for a special dial tone. (On rotary dial phones, dial 7 - 0 and wait 4 seconds.)
  3. Now, dial the number you wish to call. When you disconnect your call, Call Waiting is automatically reactivated.

To Cancel Call Waiting during a call...

  1. Place your current call on hold by depressing the switchhook* for one second.
  2. Listen for the dial tone, then dial 7 - 0 - #. (On a rotary dial phone, dial 7 - 0 and wait 4 seconds.)
  3. Listen for a special "beep-beep" tone, then depress the switchhook* for one second and return to your call.
  4. When you disconnect your call, Call Waiting is automatically reactivated.

*The switchhook is that round, flat, or square button the handset pushes down when you hang up the phone. Your phone is "off the hook" when that button is up.

Teen Service

(Not available with DSL service.)

Now, know who the call is for before you answer the phone. With Teen Service, you can have two telephone numbers assigned to the same line. Each number has a distinctive ring, so you can assign a number solely to the children. Or, you can assign a separate number to your home business and one to the family.

To use Teen Service...

  1. Wait until the full ringing pattern is complete before answering your telephone, so you will know which telephone number was dialed.
    • Main Telephone Number - One long ring (Normal ring)
    • Secondary Telephone Number - Two short rings

NOTE: Although you have two telephone numbers assigned to your line, you have just one line and only one conversation can be held at a time.

If you have Call Waiting with Teen Service...

The same distinctive ringing patterns of Teen Service are used with Call Waiting, so you can determine whether or not to interrupt your current conversation to answer the incoming call. These distinctive Call Waiting tones correspond to the distinctive ringing patterns.

To use Teen Service with Cancel Call Waiting...

  1. Follow the same procedures for Call Waiting.

If you have Call Forward with Teen Service your options are:

  1. Both telephone numbers (the main and secondary) are forwarded when Call Forward is activated. The telephone number to which you forward these calls does not receive the distinctive ringing patterns, however. To use, follow the same procedures for Call Forward.
  2. Your main telephone number only is forwarded when Call Forward is activated. The secondary number will continue to ring at home, and can be answered there. The telephone number to which you forward your main number calls does not receive the distinctive ringing pattern, however. To use, follow the same procedures for all Forward.

NOTE: To change from one of the above arrangements to the other, contact your local telephone company.

Three-Way Calling

Now you can make your plans in one call, rather then three or four. With Three-Way Calling, you can get everybody on the phone at the same time.

It's great, too, for the holidays or on birthdays, when you wish to exchange greetings with friends and relatives at two other locations. And if you have a home business, you can now set up a conference call with your business associates.

To add a third person to your call...

  1. First, depress the switchhook* for about one second. This will place the person you're talking with on hold.
  2. Listen for the dial tone. Then, dial the third person you want to join the conversation. (You can use Speed Calling codes if you have this feature.)
  3. When the third person answers, you can talk privately with this person before making the call a three-way conversation.
  4. To make the call a three-way conversation, depress the switchhook for about one second to add the person you have on hold. Your three-way call is now under way.

NOTE: If for some reason the call to the third person is not completed, or if someone else answers the phone and the person you desire to speak with is out, depress the switchhook twice to resume your conversation with the person on hold.

*The switchhook is that round, flat, or square button the handset pushes down when you hang up the phone. Your phone is "off the hook" when that button is up.

To disconnect the third person...

  1. Depress the switchhook for about one second. You'll now have only the original party on the line

Or...

  1. If either of the two people hangs up, you can continue talking with the remaining party.

To disconnect completely...

  1. Simply hang up.

Call Forward

Now when you are away from your home, your calls can be automatically sent to you. With Call Forward, there is no need to leave messages about where you are or reveal any forwarding numbers.

To forward your calls...

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone..
  2. Dial 7 - 2 - # (on rotary dial phones, dial 7 - 2 and wait four seconds).
  3. Again, listen for the dial tone.
  4. Now, dial the number where you want your calls to be forwarded. (You can use Speed Calling codes if you have this feature.)
  5. The Call Forward feature is in effect when someone answers at the forwarding number.

If there is no answer at the forwarding number, or if the line is busy, hang up the phone and repeat the steps above. If you do so within two minutes, you'll hear two "beeps," meaning your Call Forward feature is now working.

Once you've activated Call Forward, your phone will make one short ring each time a call is forwarded. You can still make outgoing calls from this phone.

If you wish to change the number to which your calls are being forwarded, just deactivate the feature (see below), then follow the steps above to forward your calls to a new number.

To deactivate Call Forward...

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial 7 - 3 - # (on rotary dial phones, dial 7 - 3 and wait four seconds).
  3. Listen for two beeps, then hang up. The feature is no longer in effect, and calls will ring on your phone.

To deactivate Call Forward Busy...

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial * 9 - 0 (on rotary dial phones, dial 9 - 0 and wait four seconds).
  3. Listen for two beeps, then hang up. The feature is no longer in effect.

The date and time of day each call was received is also displayed. Caller ID service requires a name and number compatible display device that can be purchased from any store.

Originating Call Management

The Originating Call Management (OCM) service provides subscribers with originating call control from their telephone. The service provides a PIN override so that calls normally blocked may be complete on a per-call basis.

To activate your pin:

Lift the handset and listen for dial tone.

Dial one of the following access numbers:
736-0211
296-0211
882-0211
737-0211
292-0211

Follow the prompts on the recording.

The first time you call in to set up a pin number you will need to enter 0000. Then it will ask you to enter a new pin number.

Once this feature is on your line you will have to enter your pin when the recording tells you that your line does not have long distance capabilities.

Telemarketer Call Screening

The Telemarketer Call Screening (TCS) service intercepts calls that are delivered as "unknown" or "out of area" to the subscriber's line. The service plays an announcement stating that the party they have dialed does not accept calls from telemarketers, and that party wishes for their name to be added to the telemarketer's "Do Not Call" list.

Importantly, the announcement allows callers who are not telemarketers, but whose number is not provided, to "dial or stay on the line" to complete the call.

Once a caller has received this message and has stayed on the line they will not receive this message again.
